5 Things to Bring to Your Bridal Appointment

Searching for a wedding gown can be one of the most exciting and stressful parts of wedding planning. The pressure to find the perfect one (or two)—that you, your fiancé, and your families will love—can be overwhelming. At Daphne’s Bridal Boutique, we’re dedicated to providing a unique experience, allowing every customer to express their inward personality. From the moment you begin dreaming up your perfect wedding dress, we are here to help you to have a positive and fun experience. So let’s make sure you have everything you need to easily find your perfect gown. Whether you are looking for a fairy tale-esque princess gown or something simple, sleek, and sexy, you want to make the most of your bridal appointment.

Here’s a list of 5 essential items to bring with you to your bridal appointment to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience.

1. Appropriate Undergarments

We suggest wearing your intended wedding day undergarments, or something as close to them as possible. If you plan to wear shapewear, bring it with you. To experience the full effect of the gown, strapless bras and nude underwear are recommended, regardless of the style of dress you are envisioning. If modesty is more your jam and you think you’ll be uncomfortable in just your underwear in front of your stylist, who’ll be helping you in and out of  gowns, consider a bralette and leggings. Whether modest or free-spirited, undergarments are required when trying on gowns at Daphne’s.

2. Shoes

We recognize that the chances of you having your wedding day shoes before you’ve selected a gown are unlikely, but the shoes you bring to try on gowns should be about the height of the ones you plan to wear on your big day. So if you know you’ll be rocking sky-high stilettos, have a pair on hand for your bridal appointment. If you’re planning to rock flats down the aisle, have a pair for your appointment. If you’re undecided, bring a pair of comfortable, average-height heels so that you can get an idea of how everything will look and feel together. Daphne’s also has a selection of shoes that you can check out (and purchase) after you find your dream dress.

3. Your Support Squad

Planning a wedding is an exciting time, and we know that family, friends, people in general want to be part of the excitement. But that doesn’t mean that everyone should be involved in your dress selection process. Whether we like to admit it or not, your guests can quickly shift the tone of the appointment. Those who accompany you should not only want what’s best for you, but they should want what you want. You want folks who will be honest, but not critical. You want folks who won’t push their opinions or try to live vicariously through you, but who want to help you realize your vision for your day. That may not be your whole bridal party, your future in-laws, or even your mom. And that’s okay. Currently, like many bridal shops, we are limiting the number of people who may join you at your appointment to 2. This measure is to ensure everyone’s safety, but we are happy to include other members of your support squad virtually so that they can be a part of the process too.

4. Your vision with an open mind

This is kind of a two-for-one situation. Many of us have been dreaming about our perfect weddings and wedding dresses from the very first fairy tale we ever saw or heard. Our goal is to help you find your perfect dress for your perfect day. But after 12 years in this business, we know that dreams and reality don’t often match, so we always ask that you keep an open mind and trust our expertise. Prior to your appointment, your Daphne’s stylist will review your completed questionnaire and familiarize themselves with the vision and vibe you are going for. Dresses in the styles and silhouettes you indicated will be pulled and awaiting your arrival ahead of your appointment time. We may also ask you to try on something that you never thought would look good on you, but would fit in with the vision you are creating for your big day. Keep in mind that bridal gown sizing is very different from other dress sizing, so the size of your wedding dress is unlikely to be the size you were expecting. This is perfectly normal.

5. A positive attitude

Last but certainly not least, lead with positivity. Wedding dress shopping is like regular shopping times 100 with a ton more pressure, but all the rules still apply. If you are in a bad mood or preoccupied during your appointment, it will be a lot easier to find fault with everything you try on. You’ll be less likely to find what you are looking for, even if it is right in front of you. So we recommend, if possible, planning a fun day around your bridal appointment. Maybe plan for brunch or dinner with your squad after your appointment or something more extravagant like a spa day before. Even if that’s not possible, make sure you shake off any negative thoughts or energy before your appointment.

The team at Daphne’s Bridal is here to support you (and your bridal party) through the entire process. If you haven’t already, make an appointment to find your dream dress. We can’t wait to see you soon!
